When I got home from work last Monday, I found a message telling me my Great-Auntie Nan's health had gone downhill fast. Her lung cancer had spread to her brain and she wasn't expected to last much longer. I flew to Portland Tuesday morning. When I arrived, Nan was still lucid and we were able to say our goodbyes. For the next several days, I was honored to help her daughter Kat make her final days as comfortable as possible. Nan went peacefully Saturday night at home, with Kat and me at her side.
I returned to Missoula late Sunday night and took Monday off to recoup. I will post a tribute to Nan within the next few days; in the meantime, let me just say that the world is a better place for her presence in it, and I am a better person for her presence in my life.
Godspeed, Nan. Big, big love.

Oh, this so makes me think of my grandmother.
Some of us are blessed by such women.
Condolences, Patia...be strong and remember the love.
