Thanks to excellent advice from Martha and Rennan, my style sheet now appears to be working on the comments and archives. Each will receive a jar of huckleberry jam for their very appreciated efforts. Guys, send me your snail-mail addresses!
I am still tinkering with the masthead alignment problem; I think I'm getting close. Apparently there is some sort of conflict between the float attribute and javascript in IE. Bear with me.

Yeah, it's working great in everything except Internet Explorer (Netscape, Safari, Opera ...). Grrrrrrr.
Looks great in my Safari!!! I love the header font, way cool.
