A Drivel Runs Through It

Hurtling toward my future
Life is going so fast right now, I feel like I'm in a rocket ship. Final presentation Friday, projects due next week, class wrap-ups, teacher conferences, plotting my schedule for next fall. I can't believe I'm nearly halfway through my master's degree. If I can keep up the pace, that is. My adviser today encouraged me to take extra time, stretch it out, but I want to get it done. It's too expensive to dawdle. The less time I spend earning a living, the more money I have to borrow.

And after graduation? Who knows? My dream is to make it as a freelancer, but it's an unreliable way to make a living. Unlike bills, which are probably the most reliable thing in the universe.

And on top of everything else, I've tagged you with a meme. (Sorry! I blame Mike.)

Hey this is much better. I'm clicking over from bloglines to try and leave a comment and it's all different and easy now. Cool.

Anyway--Patia, don'r have any doubts about making a living as a freelancer. You will be dynamite. The improvement in your writing just in the last year is incredible (and you started out pretty good) and your thought patterns and organization skills and ENERGY and patience--you have everythig it take. I know a woman here in Modoc who can't write her way out of a paper bag, and she's making a good living--she just writes her brains out and sooner or later someone buys it and cleans it up. You could go at a saunter and sell every piece. As someone told me decades ago, yes, there are a jillion wannabes to compete against, but only a handful of them actually know how to write. I worked on magazines and weeklies and dailies and I can tell you we were starved for good writers. Hurray for you!

Sam! You stopped by! Hooray. Thanks so much for the vote of confidence. I think I do have just about everything I need, except time. Or maybe it's drive that I lack? Because I could be writing right now, but instead I'm goofing off. Well. Someday maybe I'll get the chance to find out.

Nancy, I will get to that meme!
