A Drivel Runs Through It

Friday Fishwrap
O! Joy!

I woke this morning to eight -- eight! -- comments on my posts. It's like Christmas around here.

***

Of course, six of those comments were payback from Vanx of Verb-Ops, whose blog I was discovering and commenting on in the wee hours. Go check him out. He's literate and funny.

***

More joy: I got a voicemail from my insurance agent saying that not only are they going to cover the $400 airbag repair, they're also going to replace my sluggish seatbelt (which I hadn't even asked for!).

***

My new favorite flavor sensation: Muenster cheese and Aplets and Cotlets.

***

"I hate Montana. I really do. I hope next semester is short. I can't believe people settled here. I just don't understand it. The weather is horrible. There is no reason that anyone should have to be anywhere with -30F as a possibility." -- Sarah at the Bozeman LiveJournal Lemon Curry?

***

I woke this morning flat on my belly, with two heavy cats nestled on my back for warmth, and an ache in my lower spine. Guess I turned the heat down a little too much before bed last night.

***

Three words I can't stand: pupil, brainchild, plethora.

***
What sweet bliss to not have ANY homework to do this weekend. Sweet sweet sweet. I do, however, have plenty of holiday preparations and other projects awaiting me. But no papers to write! Hooray!

***
Must. Go. Accomplish. Things.

My goodness! I've been quoted! That is exciting.

I was feeling so awful that day, but it has gotten better. Skiing was pretty fun, but I can't wait to go home (Monday!).

You mention that I'm literate and funny. But I'm also brutish and short! Thanks for the plug.

Sarah, thanks for stopping by. Glad you're feeling better. Enjoy your visit home!

Vanx, brutish and short? Yow, he's got it all, people!

I hate the word "taut," but "plethora" ranks right up there. Ditto with "myriad." What would the psychologists say?

Well, I sort of like "taut," now that you mention it .... But as far as "plethora," I think the psychologists would say that it's overused by young reporters fresh out of journalism school, who all seem to think they've discovered the damn thing.

I hate "makeshift." Way overused by those goofball TV reporters.

I can't stand the word "trichickenfootphos" as in "C1-symmetrical bisphosphine ligand trichickenfootphos." I freakin' hate that word.

Susan, now that you mention it .... They DO use "makeshift" an awful lot!

Vanx, well, I had to google that one. To think I could have gone my whole life without ever knowing the word "trichickenfootphos." Is it pronounced like it sounds, I wonder? Try-chicken-foot-foss?

Argh! I go out of my way to invent something cool and then I get flamed on some blog for calling it "Trichickenfootphos." Geez!

Patia,

What part of "C1-symmetrical bisphosphine ligand trichickenfootphos" don't you understand? ~,:^)

[I so much prefer my new icon!]

Vanx: That part!

And, sorry, but I don't like your new one as much because it's hard to see small.

Yea, I was googling my catalyst's name and your blog came up. How random. Who talks about trichickenfootphos in a blog? Vanx must be a chemist. $%*&^%$ chemists!

Anonymous, are you Garrett Hoge, inventor of the much-maligned trichickenfootphos? :-)

If so, you MUST explain (preferably in English) what exactly this stuff is. A catalyst? For what?

I think Vanx is a writer for a chemistry organization of some sort. Maybe he's a chemist, too, I don't know. He's definitely an artist. You can check out his blog by clicking on his name.

Indeed, I am Garrett Hoge.....the inventor of Trichickenfootphos.....just trying to clear my catalyst's good name.

Unfortunately I cannot explain what it does in English.....but it has something to do with the ability to make preferentially one enantiomer (instead of 2) during a chemical reaction. It's important for manufacturing in the pharmaceutical industry since many drugs on the market occur as one enantiomer (rather than two).

We gave it the stupid name so that people would remember it......I think this was a success!

Never mind!

Garrett, I think you've definitely succeeded in coming up with a memorable name for your catalyst. Excellent work! :-)

Hey, I'm adding "catalyst" to my list of Words I Like. Mmm, catalyst.
