Escape to Flathead Lake
Flying North

I'm back from a short trip up to Flathead Lake, where I rented a little cabin at UM's biological station to work on my thesis. It was very beautiful and peaceful.

I also went up to Bigfork for an afternoon and had a lovely tea at a little place called Chris' Tea Cottage. Absolutely darling, and delicious!

On the way home, I stopped at the Catholic mission in St. Ignatius, which has a very interesting history. The Flathead Indians actually asked the "black robes" to establish a mission there. More info here and here.

I'll respond to comments tomorrow. Did I mention how beautiful and peaceful the lake was?

That is great, I'm so glad you went.

The Flathead/Glacier area is one of my favorites - I'm so jealous! ;)

Have good days!

My husband and I met one summer at the Bio Station...we had the same courses !! Do they only rent out the cabins to Grad students?

Thanks, Rachel!

Ann, I knew you met as biology students, but I didn't know it was up there!

I'm actually not sure what the requirements are for renting a cabin up there -- a professor suggested it to me, and I emailed and told them I was both student and staff.

IT IS a beautiful place that is for sure and to think I sold my property on the mouth of the river where it runs into Flathead Lake :=( The only good thing is I can stay a a very good friends place on the lake still and I plan to return to the valley when I am done working here in Billings.... I REALLY miss that area and even just to visit is a trip that I would recommend to anyone...Thanks
