I write to imagine things differently and in imagining things differently perhaps the world will change. I write to honor beauty. I write to correspond with my friends. I write as a daily act of improvisation.
Nice! I love buttercups! I grew up in Missoula in a little house in the sixteen hundred block of 11th Street, and when I was a child I would walk out to where Tremper's shopping center now is (it was all open fields back in the 40's) and pick them and Shooting Stars for a bouquet for my mother. Then a little later in the spring I would go to the same area and pick Bitterroots.
Oh I feel so nostalgic about buttercups. When I was a wee lass in the mountains and valleys of Montana, my mom would always point out the wildflowers and name them. I was never allowed to pick. She would say What if everyone picked the flowers? Then we wouldn't be able to enjoy them.
I remember some older kids scaring the pee out of me when I picked a California poppy at age 6 or 7. They informed me that, because it was the state flower, it was illegal to pick and I was going to jail.

Wow. It's hard to imagine wildflowers on the valley floor. Especially bitteroots. I still find them up here in the hills.
I'd love to hear what it's been like for you, seeing all these changes.

It wasn't. But it could've been.
