Art On Campus
Yesterday I finally made it to the "Hooked on Walter Hook" exhibit at the Montana Museum of Art and Culture at UM. Although I had enjoyed Hook's work, I didn't realize he was active in so many styles and mediums. The show features everything from abstract to landscape and prints to sculpture. Many have a real sense of humor. Chickens were among his favorite subjects, as were cats and buffalo.
I loved this quote from his scrapbook:
"On Wives and Equality" -- No person should be denied equality because of the shape of her skin, even though woman is a creature rarely domesticated and apparently never civilized.
The show runs through next Wednesday, July 15.

I'm also really excited about an upcoming MMAC show, "Capture the Moment: The Pulitzer Prize Photographs." A traveling exhibit curated by the Newseum, it opens Aug. 7 and features every Pulitzer-prize winning photograph since the contest began in 1942.
This show should not be missed by anyone who loves photography or history.

Ha that quote is funny. The chicken images are my favorite of his. You can tell he really knew chicken behavior.
Hey--we have a photo exhibit at MAM right now I think you'd like as well. A documentary series on Helmville. If you come in, find me and say hi!
