Midsummer, Montana

Round 'em up, head 'em out
Though it feels a bit like quitting heroin, after tonight I'm giving up my satellite modem for the rest of this month. I may check email from work or the local coffeehouse once in a while, but I won't be reading blogs or news feeds, and if you need to reach me during August, the old-fashioned telephone or snail-mail is your best bet.

I leave you with a recent photograph, and an excellent quote from the author who inspired the name of this blog.

Happy trails.

The world is "full of bastards, the number increasing rapidly the farther one gets from Missoula, Montana."

Help me choose a license plate
I have to renew my auto registration this month.

I must also retire my current Montana license plates for either the new standard plate or one of dozens of specialty plates. (Montana allegedly has more specialty plates than any other state.) Thus far, I've resisted the urge to get personalized or specialty plates; it's always seemed to me that, like air and water, license plates ought to be free.

I confess I also sort of like the anonymity that comes with plain old, unpersonalized plates.

But Montana has some real beauties out now, and I'm tempted. Help me decide? Please vote for your favorite in comments.
